Seniors Programs

North Vancouver has a growing population of active adults aged 55+. A number of community service organizations provide seniors programs and services at many convenient locations.

Capilano Community Services

Capilano Community Services provides administrative support for several non-profit agencies, including the Red Cross medical equipment loan service and Lionsview Seniors Planning Society. It also offers a variety of programs through Seniors Hub (such as shopping, walking, telefriends, visits and small group outings). Contact 604-988-7115 for more information.

Lynn Valley Seniors Association

The Lynn Valley Seniors Association operates in partnership with the municipality, community groups, and the Recreation Commission to offer services in the Lynn Valley area. Programs are based at Kiwanis Lynn Manor, Karen Magnussen Centre, and the historic Mollie Nye House. Activities include drop-in lunch, arts and crafts, bus trips, a walking group, movie afternoons, and discussion groups.

North Shore Community Resources Society

The North Shore Community Resources Society provides information on services, resources and activities available to seniors on the North Shore and throughout the region.

Call the Seniors' One-Stop Information Line at 604-983-3303 for general information on health, transportation, education, housing and finances, as well as referrals and follow-up. Volunteer North Shore promotes and encourages volunteering, offers interviews, and refers volunteers to community services. Contact 604-985-7168 if you'd like to get involved.

The North Shore Community Resources Society also publishes The Green Book directory to North Shore agencies, the North Shore Guide to Helping Services for Seniors & Caregivers, and the Oak Tree Project Adult Abuse Prevention & Response Directory. North Shore Neighbourhood House / John Braithwaite Community Centre

North Shore Neighbourhood House has a long tradition of providing social, recreational and childcare services to North Shore residents. Located at 225 East 2nd Street in North Vancouver, their services are directed towards improving community health and well-being. Many programs are offered out of other North Shore locations. Neighbourhood House delivers seniors programming at the John Braithwaite Community Centre, which they operate in partnership with the City of North Vancouver and the North Vancouver Recreation Commission.

Parkgate Community Services Society

This Society offers an extensive range of programming for seniors in the Blueridge, Seymour and Deep Cove areas. The society operates two community centres at Seycove and Parkgate, with many of the activities taking place in the seniors' lounge at Parkgate (3625 Banff Court). The Recreation Commission also offers a number of seniors' programs in the same facility.

Silver Harbour Centre

Silver Harbour Centre (144 East 22nd Street) is partially funded by grants from the District and City of North Vancouver. Silver Harbour offers a variety of recreational and education programs, as well as support services for those 55 years and older, including low-cost, hot midday meals and light refreshments. Other Services

Lionsview Seniors Planning Society

Lionsview Seniors Planning Society seeks to ensure the participation of seniors in planning processes-including community planning, health planning and social services. Lionsview also fosters and facilitates networking between local seniors organizations and agencies. Contact Mary Segal at 604-985-3852 for more information.

Social Planning/Community Service Advisory Committee Grants

The District of North Vancouver's Community Service Advisory Committee advises Council on a variety of current social issues. The committee also evaluates grant applications and makes community grant recommendations annually. Contact Robyn Newton at 604-990-2274 to learn more.
