Active North Shore Network
Working together promoting individual and community health and wellness in North and West Vancouver
The North Shore is currently one of the fittest communities in Canada; however, we still face many health and wellness challenges such as child obesity, stress-related illness and early onset diabetes.
The Active North Shore Network was formed to improve community awareness of and access to active living and healthy eating and to inspire those who work, play and live on the North Shore to achieve healthier, more balanced lives. The Network includes municipal, community, corporate and media partners from across the North Shore—each with a commitment or mandate to support health and wellness in our community. Major Network sponsors include the North Shore Credit Union, North Shore News, ISCAPE Internet Consulting and The Village at Park Royal. You can find a complete list of current Network members below.
The 4 A's
The Active North Shore Network's goals are to:
- Promote awareness of the benefits of active living, healthy eating, and living tobacco free
- Enhance accessibility for those in our community who face barriers to being active
- Advocate for health and wellness programs in our community
- Create attitude shift that results in active living and healthy eating being part of residents' everyday lives.
This umbrella organization aims to achieve these goals by creating targeted community-based initiatives, programs and events to enhance personal and community health and wellness, increase participation in recreation and build community support. Activities have included the Active For Life North Shore Challenge, the Active North Shore program, Play & Be Active Game for elementary school students, West Vancouver's Fitness Challenge, a number of corporate challenges, the sharing of up-to-date health and recreation research with the public, and advocating for healthier food choices in vending machines.
